I do not think that HR is that bad, true his voice may not be pleasing, but his songs are euphoric and addictive since they have a certain beat
pritam on the other hand writes crap, listen to Afreen from Bhagam Bhag, that is absolutely a piece of TRASH!!!!!!!!!! |

OK, so Himesh is a weee bit nasal, sings always saddy saddy songs, and always loses his girl in his videos!!! So What?!?!?! That still doesn't change the fact that his music is beautiful, has variety (from Tere Naam..... to No Way, No Way...... to Janaabe-Alli of Bardaasht....to Janaabejaniya of Aksar), and when he adds his voice to it, the songs are coooool(Aashiq Banaya, Jhalak Dikhlaja, Zara Jhoom Jhoom, Afsana Banake, ......................)!!! You see, every music director has his style!!! You really can't compare them!!! But can you tell me one music director who has got such a horrible start to his career, even with help of great people like Salman Khan (who helped him be the composer of Tere Naam), but finaly becomes such a great success after his debut song, at such a point that hes composing Tamil songs now (Dasavatharam )!!!
Bottom Line: You may like him or not, but a good music director always remains one!!! |

Even my baby cousin sister Lara, 2 years old, comes running to the TV if she hears Himeshs so called "nasal" voice and starts wiggling her finger sayin Aazaa Aazaa (like in Jhalak Dikhlaja)! ...........But its sad that we're only two members of our family who still like Himesh Reshammiya !!! |

it's true himesh is one of the best, at 1st when i heard Aashiq Banaya i was like what crap is this, but his songs r great, especially Dil Tumhar Bina from 36 China Town (cuz that's the only song he sang with Alka)
but on the other hand there's Pritam who hasn't the slightest clue what music is |

Stupid Way to compare! Pritam takes other songs, which may be Arab or Turkish, or other oriental songs ( Joshile Jawaan Ho from Fight Club is inspired from an Arab song, Shikdum from DHoom 2004) and modifies them slightly to create mind-blowing hits!!!
Himesh has more than a 1000 songs in his song bank (see http://www.rediff.com/movies/2006/may/17himesh.htm) that he composes with a lot of speed! They are totally different with a different background and a different way of composing music!!!
Its like asking me, do you prefer AR REHMAAN OR SEL??? WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO ANSWER? They are all geniuses with very different styles!!! |

i personally thinks that himesh is genius with his composition and melody but his voice always sux. i m ready to listen his Tere Naam , Maine pyar kyun kiya, Kahin pyar na ho jaye. all this songs are great but his Apka suroor album his irritating. but himesh is popular in Rickshaw Drivers. they always play his song in their rickshaw. _________________ YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE LIFE WILL TAKE YOU

I am not a fan of Himesh's music, but it's a fact that he is really very popular with the masses. He has understood the pulse of masses, and delivers the music to their taste. Frankly, the autorickshawwallahs won't pay up for ARR or SEL's brilliant compositions, but they will surely buy a Himesh Reshammiya composition. He not only rocks, but rules the masses.
Further, he is quite unique, and a person with immense attitude and confidence. In Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, one can see him constantly bickering with vishal dadlani and asha ji, but then he is the only one who gives the struggling participants an opportunity to do playback, and is also taking along some of the participants with him to perform in UK. That's good, isn't it? This friday-saturday, it's himesh special on sa re ga ma pa. It would be interesting to watch. _________________ Mandar

i personally feel HR is very repetitive..... but admire his knack of generating hits one after the another.. |

There are things unexplained
But are somewhat aberrant.
Like, why was the Bush Presidency sustained,
Or recognize HR's mediocity, people aren't?
There are no good answers, perhaps.
It is what it is - our sad lot.
'Tis not the no. of hits, nor who claps,
That decides what is musical, or not. |

Well said SND...i partially agree....but talent and popularity are two different things...like incase of Bush and HR..they are sort of persons whom you either hate or like, and so they generate lots of debate amongst public and gain mass popularity..... unlike our ARR or SEL who are admired by most and do not generate such unreasonable hysterical debates.
well, one cannot blame HR for the mass hysteria that surrounds him. becoz masses do not see talent or nature as the sole criteria for idolising someone....else rajnikant would not have been more popular than kamal hasan. You never know what public likes and whom they decide to idolize and for what reasons. As you say SND...things cannot be explained. Best thing would be to enjoy things as they stand. _________________ Mandar

I think he has invented new genre of music ie " Sufi- trance ". His singing is influenced by sufi music where the his music beat is purely trance. _________________ YOU NEVER KNOW WHERE LIFE WILL TAKE YOU

| I think the trance or dance part of it came later, when his songs, with their repetitive chorus-lines were used for remixes (many by other producers) to cater to a dance/club scene. Generally, anything that has a repetitive aspect to it is ideal for trance, and so that's a great fit, granted. But I don't give credit to HR for inventing that combination. The rhythm programming for his original compositions are mediocre at best. |

I haven't watched his movie and neither intend to, but if this article or box office is to be believed, the public has made himesh the actor a superhit..
http://specials.rediff.com/movies/2007/jul/02aks.htm
perhaps because of lack of good movies in bollywood ..This is what happens when even the best production houses like chopra's and johar's start making crap and B grade movies like kank, jbj, neel n nikki, etc and try to fool the public by getting good music and canny marketing.
Really, good to know that SEL are working wth amol palekar now. Hope they work with mani ratnam, iqbal kukunnor etc.,who will use their music for meaningful films. _________________ Mandar
